Over Budget

The B.C.I. renovations are expected to be $380,000 over budget.

Upgrades to the Homedale water treatment plant are expected to exceed the original cost by $8 million.

Renovations to the Gretzky Centre are expected to be over budget by $2 million.

Can this City not do anything without going well over budget? What is the point of having a tendering process if the lowest tender gets the job then another substantial amount is added to the total cost anyway? And isn't this work being done now because we are in an economic downturn with many looking for work? I thought that this was supposed to lower costs. Imagine how much more these projects would be over budget in boom times.

But never fear, no one at City Hall will be held to account. Only the lowly taxpayers who will have to foot the added expense.
