Fools Onboard

The major league thinkers on The Grand Erie District School Board are not just attempting to look a gift horse in the mouth, they are also trying to spit in its face. The Provincial Government has come up with $23.8 million dollars to rebuild B.C.I. on Brant Ave. but of course the School Board is horrified at this prospect and is trying every argument possible to discredit this windfall and make every excuse why it won't work. The agenda of these rustic pinocchios has been clear since after the last election. Before that election they were in favour of the rebuild but right after they reversed their course. They only supported the rebuild so that they would not have to deal with an angry Brantford public during their election campaigns and face possible defeat. But in doing so they also have no mandate or public support for relocating a new B.C. I. anywhere else in the city or the county. And of course somewhere in their rural fiefdom would be their preferred location, maybe Harley, or La Salette or Teeterville. The site that they chose is on the farthest southwest edge of Brantford and would be more convenient to those in the rural areas than any city students so that should tell you something right there.

And if these trustees are finally forced to comply to the wishes of the majority, as trustee Werden has indicated they will use their petty power and spite the B.C. I. supporters by ripping down the original facade. How mature. And what an example this sets for the students.

It was good of Dave Levac and others to work hard and secure this funding. Now he needs to work just as hard to see that this board is removed from power like the Toronto board was a few years ago for financial mismanagement, because if the trustees turn down this funding as they have indicated is their want, they will be sticking the tax payers of Brantford with an onerous expense that is unnecessary. Amalgamation of boards might have been a good thing in some cases but here it has given these hicks from the sticks the power over this urban school system and they seem anxious to destroy it. They should take their small town thinking and go back to running small town schools.
