Strip Art

So the Brantford Arts Block is going to try to get the Brantford City Council to sell the newly purchased former Moody's strip club to them for less than half of the over-inflated price that this council paid for it. The Arts Block says that they are not asking the city to take a huge loss but that is exactly what they are doing. When the city purchased this building it was supposed to be so that they could remove the adult entertainment designation from the building and then to resell it at a fair market value. If it agrees to the demands of this group, it will just be another betrayal of the hard working taxpayer and will make one wonder if this was not the real reason for the purchase in the first place.

Feel free to chime in against Josh Bean on the Expositor Feedback page regarding the "Fair market value" of the strip club. I have been posting under "Tim". My latest, in case it doesn't get posted:

"Josh,

My comments were not so much directed at the Brantford Arts Block but more toward the original "purchase" in the first place. Once the city made the decision to seize the property and forcibly prevent the freedom to bid, any decision regarding it's future sale became inherently arbitrary, and the "fair market value" is pure fiction for something the city can sell at any price, high or low, that suits its whim. What once *had* market value is now a gift to whoever can curry favour with city council by outlining the kind of "vision" that city planners are so fond of."
