Hands In My Pocket

Everytime I hear this song on the Capital One commercial, I think it should be a commercial for the Liberal Party (both Federal and Provincial).

MPP's Pay Raise

Well, our Ontario Members of Parliament decided to play Santa Claus. To themselves. They are giving themselves an increase in pay of at least $22,000/yr. (and few MPPs made the minimum pay of $88,771 so most will be receiving an even bigger increase). And they have even postponed their three month vacation to pass this legislation as quickly as possible. If only they cared as much about other important legislation.

How many citizens of Brantford would like to just make $22,000/yr let alone get that much or more as an increase? While seniors struggle to get by on even less than this increase amount while paying ever increasing local and provincial taxes (remember that Health Tax that McGuinty brought in after promising not to raise your taxes), your uncaring MPP has his greedy hand out for more. MPPs are already in the top 10 per cent for income in Canada. McGuinty was opposed to this raise at first but in his usual flip-flop way changed his mind and now supports this personal cash grab.

And their justification for this: the Federal MPs make more . Boo hoo. What a childish attitude. No wonder question period is like a bunch of kindergarden kids when this is the attitude of those entrusted with running this province. ( To be fair the Conservatives support this raise also).

Remember not long ago when the planned educational facility that was to go into the old P.U.C. building 0n Wellington St. was scrapped because of lack of funding from the province. At the time Dave Levac our local MPP said that money was tight and that the Province had other priorities. Guess money isn't that tight and now we see just what those priorities are. Thanks Dave. Have a Merry Christmas spending this money down south.
