Son of BCI

If a new public high school is constructed in West Brantford to replace BCI, it should not carry the BCI name. It really would not have any connection to the history and tradition of the origional BCI. And keeping the name would just remind people of what was lost and be an irritant to those who opposed this plan. I suggest that this new school should be called Son of BCI or SOB for short. That way it would remind people of the trustees and administrators of the Grand Erie School Board and their underhanded dealing.

Grand Erie School Board Trustees

The trustees first decided to construct a new BCI in West Brantford. But with an election looming and widespread opposition to this plan, they reversed course and then decided to rebuild BCI on its current site. Thus removing this as an election issue and the likely defeat of several current trustees. But once back in their chairs for a further four years, once again they have reversed their position and are going with the West Brantford plan. It sure seems as this was their agenda all along and that they only made the rebuilt decision to ensure their re-election. These people don't have the ethical standards necessary to hold their positions. What does it say to those students that they are supposed to be leading? Do or say what is necessary to get elected even though you don't believe it. Shame! Shame!

The OLG Scandal

Conrad Black and his four co-accused are now on trail for supposedly bilking his company of $80 million dollars (although it may be more of a case of tax evasion than outright theft) , while here in Ontario the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has been swindled out of possibly $100 million or more and the OLG has done nothing about it. Even though the police have now been called in after an expose by a TV show and a report from the Ontario ombudsman, chances are slim that charges will be laid because the OLG ignored any evidence of these crimes and has kept little in the line of documentation.

The head of the OLG has resigned but I'm sure he, like the two disgraced heads of Ontario Hydro before him, will receive a large severance package for a job poorly done.

Lotteries and games of chance have been called a tax on the stupid but everyone likes to indulge in the fantasy of instant riches at least once in awhile. But it seems that the chances of winning were much less as this fraud was carried out.

I remember when the only real lottery available was the Irish Sweepstakes and even it was illegal and other lottery type games were called "the numbers racket" and run by criminal elements. But of course the government recognized another way to suck money from the public and got involved in gambling. Who knew that the illegal operations would turn out to be the more honest ones?

I only occasionally buy lottery ticket but will no longer do so. If you still want to try for a major win, I would suggest buying tickets on the local Rotary Home draw or The Heart and Stroke or similar lotteries. The draws are held less often and thought the tickets are more expensive and the prizes may be smaller , they are still substantial and the odds of winning are far better with the proceeds going to support good causes. And they have proven to be more honest than anything the OLG is involved in.

B.C.I. and Trustees

Once again we have the spectre of the Grand Erie School Board Trustees (not sure this is an appropriate title as they can hardly be trusted) changing their mind on the rebuilding of the Brantford Collegiate Institute.

It has been obvious from the start that the trustees and the board administration didn't want to keep this school at it's present site. Driven by their illusions of grandeur and their jealousy of the Separate School Board and its new high school in the prime location of west Brantford, they have constantly fought to have the new B.C.I. built over there as well. They have thrown up every obstacle that they could think of to affect this end. And now that they are safely re-elected for another four year term, it's full speed ahead with their hidden agenda and to hell with the good of the students and the poor old beleaguered taxpayer. Maybe the taxpayer should be able to change their mind as well and have a new election for these positions.

And if you don't believe that this has been a long term plan especially by the empire building administration that is afraid of the separate school system getting a few more students and thus more money just look at the sad state of repair of the present B.C.I.. Many public buildings (and of course private ones too) including several public schools in the Grand Erie system are in excellent shape even though they are even older than B.C.I.. It is almost criminal that B.C.I. has been allowed to deteriorate to this point but that is the Brantford way. If you want to tear down a building but will face opposition just let it go so that it reaches the point that it cannot be repaired . This is what was allowed to happen to B.C.I. and really the trustees and administrators should be facing criminal charges for dereliction of their fudiciary duty to the tax payers of Brantford.

If the City Council is serious about the downtown area and listening to the citizens of Brantford they will refuse to co-operate in this scheme by the board and refuse to make immediately available the necessary land for this project in west Brantford. We shall see.
